Integrative therapy comes in many forms for Children. We have had alot of success providing mental health therapy packages for children and they have been developed specifically on an individual basis for your child.
A lot of children struggle with day to day issues, from going into school on a daily basis and coping throughout their school day, at home issues from struggling to sleep, to eat and maintaining a healthy diet and exercise.
A combination of issues which sees them unable to regulate themselves emotionally that ultimately shows itself as anxiety in both physical and mental forms, as well as external issues such as pressure form exams, bullying, moving homes and social circles, family separations as well as bereavements and health issues within the family.
Children are exposed to more visual and artificial stimuli than ever before in the current climate and a lot have issues at a younger age, both mentally and developmental.
Children with mental health worries or issues can find it hard to speak out themselves and it’s our job to show them empathy and trust and through visible, verbal & social cues, they can present their symptoms or traits in a variety of ways; They may not try and seek help themselves, whereas some might.
They can be very internal, quiet, shy and unsure, withdrawn, anxious or depressed, being alone and not socialising with their peer group or attaching themselves to a figure of authority. This is known as Inward Signs.
Whereas some children can also be very external such as being naughty, causing trouble or fights, showing poor school work or grades (also internally), lack of interest, overtly aggressive to others both when challenged. This is known as Outward Signs.
There also a responsibility to identify where issues could be linked to ADHD, ADD, Autism traits etc and these must also be acknowledged and acted on accordingly reporting through SENCO at schools and appropriate support services and escalating appropriately to the right authority where it is considered a safeguarding issue or the child may be in neglect or danger.
A feeling of unease, such as worry or fear. – it's an understandable reaction in children to change or a stressful event.
The first 5 years is the most imperative time in a child's life for forming attachments. If a child fails to form attachments to primary care givers, this can impact on emotional developmental issues going forward in their lives, known as attachment bond, it can affect their ability to express emotions, develop trust and security and build meaningful relationships later in life.
Children who have been exposed or subject to trauma can suffer emotionally and physically from PTSD.
When the child hurts themselves on purpose as a way of dealing or coping with very difficult feelings, painful memories or overwhelming situations and experiences. It is getting more and more common among teenagers and within social groups
Most parents have heard of different parenting styles such as attachment, helicopter, disciplinarian and permissive. Perhaps less well known is the style known as therapeutic parenting.
Therapeutic Parenting is a highly nurturing parenting approach, with empathy at it’s core.
